The road works are slowing down. It is highly possible that we will not be ready till Euro 2012. Road investments will be limited despite of world-wide economic crisis.
“We will surely build 700 kilometers of highways and 2.1 thousand kilometers of express roads” – promised the Minister of Infrastructure Cezary Grabarczyk one year ago. We know that it is unreal.
Polish roads investments are the biggest building project in our country since ages. Low and Justice Party asked the European Union for help in order to built Polish highways till 2012. Poland was supposed to spend 121 billion zlotys (32 billion euro) for those investments. Our current government (Civic Platform and Polish People’s Party) did not change this plan.
Polish government has signed an agreement with a company “Autostrada Wilekopolska” according to which there will be built next 106 kilometers of highway from German border in Świeck to Nowy Tomyśl. A2 toll motorway will be ready till 2011.
There are also many other delays in the performance of a task. A4 highway from Zgorzelec to Krzyżowa was supposed to have been ready till last November. Our government postponed a deadline for building this road till next August.
Also Polish new express roads are being built slower than everybody supposed. The result of those delays can cause many difficulties for organizers of the next European Football Championship Tournament, because there will not be direct highway connections between all championship cities.
